I've lived in Brighton all my life and when I was 19 years old I was called up for one of the Womens Services. I went into the WAAF as a trainee driver. I was sent to Bridgenorth, in Shropshire, not knowing where I was going to be sent to. I had my suitcase, addressed to home, so that I could send my civilian clothes back when I got my WAAF uniform. I then went onto Morcambe, which was full of newly enrolled WAAFs. We stayed in B&Bs by the seafront, while we were doing our initial training - drills, jabs and general training. Lots of the girls then left but I stayed on for three more months to complete my drivers training.
