One night we were invited by the Canadian troops based in Horsham, to Sheffield Park for a social evening, and a night of dancing and food. They had a live band and we would do ballroom dancing, sadly some of the men couldn't really dance that well, and it wasn't helped by the fact they had their heavy boots on. We WAAF girls were lucky because we were allowed to take off our jackets.

Lots of the beautiful country houses around Sussex were commandered by the Canadian troops for their headquarters, and they were wonderful places to go for the evening.

At the end of the night we would all return by midnight to our quarters in the back of a lorry.
