For as long as I can remember Liberation Day has had a strong vein of live, local music running through it, from the days of Market Rock to the Vale Earth Fair's Liberated Stage and 2008 was no different. ![]() U.S. Monster Trucks on the BBC stage Things got going in town at two o'clock in the afternoon with BBC Guernsey's live music stage on the seafront. First on were the US Monster Trucks who, despite a few sound issues at the start of their set, were soon off and rolling with their mix of pop and rock covers. While they are more accustomed to playing to a slightly different crowd than the mixed audience they had today that didn't stop them playing with their usual vibrant enthusiasm, and a number of those watching seemed to very much enjoy the show. ![]() The Let It Beatles drew a big crowd The Let It Beatles were next on stage and showed signs of great improvement since I last saw them play at The Venture Inn last summer. Running through a set of Beatles classics that had the crowd singing, clapping and, in a few cases dancing, along from a pure entertainment standpoint The Let It Beatles are one of the best things on Guernsey's scene today and with a special guest appearance from the day's organiser, Deputy Mike O'Hara, today's show was definitely something a bit special. ![]() Spoonful Finally on the BBC stage came blues band Spoonful. Having just finished a gig at The Golden Lion it seemed the band were already warmed up and put in an excellent and easily free flowing performance. Guitarist Joe Corbin was especially impressive as, while he is always remarkable musically speaking, today he seemed much more at ease on stage than he sometimes has in the past which really helped make the show. last updated: 13/05/2008 at 11:01 SEE ALSOYou are in: Guernsey > Unsigned Bands > Reviews > Music for Liberation Day |
