This walk takes you on a natural history journey through geological time in Gloucester to Alney Island and the Severn Estuary with its amazing wildlife, wetlands and birds.

More info: The walk takes you through Gloucester city centre, pointing out building stones that offer a very intriguing insight into how the county might have looked from the Devonian period through the Jurassic right up to the ice ages and the modern day.
The walk then moves out to Alney Island to take in some of the fascinating wildlife before visiting the River Severn and some of the unique features you can see there.
Getting there: By bus: There are regular bus services from the surrounding towns that would take you right into Gloucester city centre where the walk begins.
By car: Again, there are plenty of place where you can park your car in Gloucester city centre. Parking charges vary.

Boots required for the longer walk
The short option walk is focused entirely on Gloucester city centre and takes you on level paved streets. Every location mentioned in the short option is accessible for baby buggies and wheelchairs.
The longer option which takes in Alney Island is slightly more difficult because there are a number of stiles and narrow foot bridge crossings on part of the route which would make it impossible to use wheelchairs or baby buggies. This route can also get a little muddy when wet so walking boots and trousers are recommended.
