Colin the Tipster

The 2004 BBC Children In Need appeal is already £600 better off thanks to a bit of expert tipping!

BBC Gloucestershire's Horse racing pundit "Colin the Tipster" was set a challenge - to better the tips of Paddy Power. And he didn't let us down.

The two were competing on whose selected horse would do better in each of the three races sponsored by Paddy Power at the recent Open meeting at Cheltenham Race Course.

And Colin (remarkably!) won each time, getting 200 quid a go for Pudsey.

All smiles - Colin the Tipster

The pick of the bunch for Col was Team Tassel which romped home in first place in Sunday's Paddy Power Casino Hurdle.

His other selections were Ollie Magern which came in fourth in the big race on Saturday - the Paddy Power Gold Cup Chase - and Un Jour A Vassy which managed fifth place in one of Friday's races.

Colin was suitably impressed with his selections. He said: "I was showing off. A fifth and a fourth, and then a winner. Six hundred pounds for Children In Need, can you believe that?"

In response Paddy Power - who is in fact a real person, and the public face the betting company with the same name - was gracious in defeat.

He said: "It's unbelievable. Well done, fair play to you Colin. I was beaten by the better man."
