Teddy Abrams conducts Bartók and Copland

Copland’s cowboy ballet Rodeo is the colourful centrepiece to an upbeat programme from the BBC Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor Teddy Abrams. And nothing sets the toes tapping quite like the blazing fiddles of Copland’s irrepressible Hoe-Down
But first, wake up and smell the paprika in Hungary, where Bartók toasts the birthday of the city of Budapest with an exuberant garland of dances. And finally, a vision of hope, wonder and rebirth, as the young American composer Chelsea Komschlies paints the daybreak in all the colours of the full orchestra. “A darkened orb, long dormant, and unseen by human eye / Begins to stir and wake at last, and glow within, and rise…” This is music that glows in the ear.
