Javier Perianes performs Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in Madrid.

For this concert in Madrid, the BBC Philharmonic and Chief Conductor Juanjo Mena are joined by one of Spain’s most exciting young pianists, Javier Perianes. He will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, a work revered for its delicate, introspective mood.
Full of surprises for its early audiences, the concerto continues to beguile listeners, from the novel opening on solo piano, to the enigmatic slow movement with its disparate conversation between soloist and orchestra.
The second half contrasts greatly; we hear Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, monumental in its scale and ambition.
