Born in Salford, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies was Composer/Conductor for the BBC Philharmonic for 10 years and in this concert the orchestra performs his Fifth Symphony.
Davies has cited the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius as an influence in this work, and partnered with a performance of Dane Carl Nielsen’s ‘An Imaginary Journey to the Faroe Islands’ there is a touch of the midnight sun to this concert.
