What jobs do you do in the newsroom?
Read the news

What’s the most exciting/biggest news story you’ve ever covered?
The consequences of the Options for Change document announced by the then Secretary of State Tom King. The results were thousands of job losses at the Barrow shipyard. The effects were considerable for the town’s employment.

Which famous/well-known people have you spoken to during your career?
David Attenborough, Bill Beaumont, Lionel Blair, Carla Lane, Prunella Scales.

How did you get into radio?
I took a postgraduate course.

Where was your first broadcast?
BBC Radio Sheffield

Where else have you worked?
BBC Radio Sheffield

What other jobs have you done besides broadcasting?

Church Organist.

How long have you worked at BBC Radio Cumbria and why do you like it?
I enjoy the variety.

What are your local connections?
I was born and brought up in Barrow. My parents still live there.

What would you be if you weren’t a journalist?
If I had the talent I’d like to be able to sing songs of the 40s and 50s for a living. Unfortunately I don’t, so I’d probably be working in tourism – in PR

What do you do when you’re not broadcasting?

Walk around and visit places in the beautiful county of Cumbria.
