What jobs do you do at BBC Radio Cumbria? I'm a Reporter and sometimes read the news. How did you start your career in radio? I'm what you might call quite "fresh" - the career starts here. I did do the obligatory spell in hospital radio. Where else have you worked? I did read the news (once) at a commercial radio station in Blackpool before BBC Radio Cumbria whisked me away to work for them. What other jobs have you done besides working in radio? I've worked for British Gas, in a telephone call centre, as a particularly good paper boy and I also worked in a department store, occasionally in the Lingerie section (nice work if you can get it!) What are your local connections (if any)? None at all, my family are from Rochdale, in Lancashire and from Scotland, I guess I'm filling the gap now I live in Cumbria. What would you do if you didn't work in radio? I'd have to be in a famous band, not of the pop variety I'd like to add. Everybody want to be in a band! What would listeners be surprised to learn about you? I once broke the world record for the biggest wind band playing an entire piece of music all at the same time, in time at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. I was playing the Clarinet, along with about a hundred others but my mum insists she heard me. What do you do when you're not at work? Recover from it - usually close to a television. I quite fancy myself as a celebrity chef in the future, although at the moment I can't cook so there's some room for improvement - I'm learning. Any famous interviewees? Richard Nankivell, he's famous isn't he? I'm afraid this is quite a disappointing answer, no celebs in my list. I must try harder. I do however get to interview tons of interesting people, who are probably far more important than those with the fame factor anyway. Other interesting information? I once took part in the Scottish national's for Swimming and trained with some Olympic swimmers - they all beat me, but I tried very hard. |
