What jobs do you do at BBC Radio Cumbria? I produce Martin Plenderleith's Lunchtime Show and I also present the Wednesday Session 7-10pm. How did you start your career at BBC Radio Cumbria? It began at the age of ten, as a listener - I entered competitions, sat in with presenters, and tried to persuade the boss at the time to promise me a job when I grew up! Twelve years later I found myself trying to persuade the PRESENT boss to give me a job
and eventually he did! Where else have you worked? BBC Radio Scotland, Jazz FM, student radio and hospital radio in Glasgow. I also started up a community radio station in Carlisle. What other jobs have you done besides working at BBC Radio Cumbria? Sold open-top bus tours in Glasgow; played the piano in various Lake District restaurants; worked in a motorway service station. How long have you worked at BBC Radio Cumbria and why do you like it? Ive been here since Spring 1998. As you might have gathered, Ive always wanted to make radio programmes, and its great being able to do so on home territory. The people here are a good bunch to work with, and the listeners are very friendly, loyal and supportive. What are your local connections (if any)? I was born and bred in Penrith, and went to secondary school in Carlisle. What would you do if you didnt work at BBC Radio Cumbria? Itd have to be something involving radio, music, or (preferably) both! What would listeners be surprised to learn about you? I co-wrote two dance/house tracks released on a Scottish record label in 2001. What do you do when youre not at work? I write, arrange and perform music of various styles, from classical to jazz
