Dave, your right about how good the Ramathons were but unfortunately I don't see them returning. There is not enough will to support an event as big any more. However we should give a great vote of thanks to Sporting Futures who have given us the City Centre 10k with support from the Derbyshire Building Society. I would ask everyone to get behind them and get your entries in early to avoid disappointment.Perhaps we will see Nancy and Ronald again. Over to you Dave.

My special memory of the Run The World in 1986 was as a Shelton Strider. One of our clubs organisers Ray Hitchcock and his wife Jo arranged for our club and others from this area, to run in groups in relay from the NEC to the Derby Racecourse to finish there to coincide with the massed start of the Run The World. Many of us ran far more miles than we had ever ran before egged on by the very special occasion. We ran initially as far as Allenton where we joined by hundreds of other runners to do the last stretch to the Raecourse where we were met by thousands of other people waiting to do their bit for charity. Ray and Jo worked very hard with organising a coach for us all to travel on, contacting the police in each area we passed through, sorting out who should run each leg to make sure that the takeovers went smoothly as well as fitting a speaker on top of his car to warn people of our arrival by playing over and over again, Everybody Wants To Rule the World. A very special day that I don't ever see being repeated again, where almost the whole nation,/ world turned out to run.
As an aside the Shelton Striders celebrate 20 years in existance this year with a number of things being organised , a 20 km run, a 20 hour relay, a re-union night with past and present members a 20 km run, walk cycle etc etc.
