FACTS

Many (but by no means all) of Derbyshire's loveliest walks are within the Peak District National Park.

The Peak District National Park covers some 555 sq miles.

Half of the population of England lives within 60 miles of the Peak District.

The highest point in the Peak is Kinder Scout at 2,088 ft (636m).

Pete's other favourites

1Kinder Scout and Bleaklow - two fabulous moors but they do need to be taken seriously!
2Stanton Moor near Birchover - small heather moorland with many ancient hut circles and the Nine Ladies Stone Circle.
3Stanage Edge near Hathersage - the haunt of many climbers, bikers and walkers - it is a fabulous place especially on a clear day. Nearby stands North Lees Hall, which inspired Charlotte Bronte to write Jane Eyre.
4Lathkill Dale and its quieter neighbour Bradford Dale near Youlgreave - two fabulous limestone dales, always worth exploring.
5Chatsworth Park - need I say more?
6The Roaches - Staffordshire's fine gritstone outcrops. Are the Wallabies still there?
7The Upper Dove Valley around Longnor - discover the delights of Chrome Hill or is it a sleeping dragon!
8Wolfscote Daleand Beresford Dale, near Hartington - the quieter end of Dovedale and so much better for it!
9The Manifold Valley - another fabulous area that often plays second fiddle to Dovedale.
We'd like you totell us about your favourite walk in Derbyshire or the Peak District.

Send us as much information as you can, plus a few details such as approximate length, duration, starting point and grid reference and we'll add your walk to our list.

You might like to tell us why you enjoy the walk, too.
