BookCrossing on the BBC BusI’ve just brought in four books to ‘Book Crossing ‘, three of them were gifts. Out of those, two Tom Sharpe’s didn’t appeal to my sense of humour, but one ‘The Life and Death of Carthage’ was an interesting book, an academic tome of doubtful age, but with loads of information and myths and legends of ancient times. If you enjoy history, and ‘his/her story you may enjoy it. It has a socio economic background and would be useful as a text book, even if it is so dated. | | Viv Eardley on the BBC Bus |
The last book ‘Wild Swans’ was a disappointment, it had been so hyped up that I was expecting so much more than it delivered. It was a long rambling story about the female side of family life during the Cultural Revolution. I found the writing poor and empty of emotion and it dragged on for ever. However very informative. I have taken two books, one by Anita Shreve - I hope she my type of writer and David Baddiel – ‘Time for Bed’ I have just finished reading his ‘Hidden? Purposes’ and enjoyed it, especially as a follow up from his TV programme ‘Who do you think you are?’ and the local connection with the Isle of Man. Sorry this one is not available, from the library.
