Cath

Through An 'Off-Comer's' Eye

Millom was only supposed to be a temporary home, but Cath's still there! Now she want's to share her thoughts about the place ...

Please tell us about yourself.
I am 50 years old, married with one son. I used to be a teacher but am now at home looking after my husband who is an invalid.

What’s your story about?
The story is about my move from my home-town of Manchester to Millom in Cumbria. The town and people remind me of the qualities of life when I was growing up. The warmth and open-ness of the people and the slower, simpler way of life are to be valued.

Cath's story

Why did you choose to tell this particular story?
Millom was meant to be a temporary location – but I’m still here. I value the qualities that it has to offer and wanted to tell other people about it.
The town could do with a boost as well as having good points – it also has its problems.

What was the experience of making you digital story like?
I enjoyed the storytelling element and meeting and getting to know new people. Also, hearing about their lives.
I enjoy using and playing about with new technology.
I felt de-skilled using a Mac instead of a PC which was humbling! The software was complicated – especially for beginners, but the guidance and support was excellent.
A thoroughly enriching experience. Thank you.
