The walk starts in Bubbenhall Village. There is no public car park, but you can find plenty of on-street parking or park in the village hall car park or one of the pub car parks, as long as you check with the owners.

From the village hall:

Walk back up the road past the Malt Shovel pub.

Notice the timber framed building on your right and Victorian cottages on your left. The difference in style and age of these buildings suggests how the village has developed over a long period of time.

The Three Horseshoes pub

Turn left up Spring Lane, walk to the Three Horseshoes.

This is where you start the walk if you have travelled by bus.

Cross the road into Pit Hill and walk up the lane to the main road (ignore the two footpaths to your right). Cross over the main road (taking care) and walk up the track that has the sign outside for Glebe Farm.

The name Pit Hill suggests there has been some sort of digging on this site for many hundreds of years and hints at the wealth of deposits just under the surface in this area. In the present day gravel and sand are quarried here.

Look carefully and you'll see badger setts on the way up this track. Badgers prosper in this area because it is a habitat mosaic of farmland and woodland, offering shelter and a mixture of feeding opportunities. Some of the woodlands here do not have public access and so the badgers can live undisturbed.
