Tottenham Red Card Appeal 托特纳姆的红牌上诉

Robbie Keane
Robbie Keane got a red card
It wasn't a good weekend for Premiership team Tottenham Hotspur. They lost 2-3 to Birmingham at home and striker 前锋 Robbie Keane was sent off 红牌罚下 for his challenge 挑战 on Frenchman Fabrice Muamba.

Tottenham Hotspur will now going to appeal 上诉 against the decision by referee Phil Dowd to red card 出示红牌 Keane. The referee had to speak to the fourth official 第四裁判 about the incident, which implies he wasn't sure about what happened.

It's only the second red card Keane has received throughout his whole career but if the appeal is unsuccessful, Keane may have to miss three matches.

Keane is Tottenham's top goal scorer 进球大将 and he actually scored the two goals for Tottenham against Birmingham.

Just a Collision
I didn't think it was a bad tackle. It was just a collision. I'm not a malicious player. I'm disappointed, but most of all I'm disappointed we didn't get something out of the game.

Robbie Keane, Tottenham Hotspur striker

Robbie Keane said he "didn't think it was a bad tackle 抢截. It was just a collision 碰撞". Collision is another word for a crash, or when one thing hits something else. Keane said he isn't "a malicious 有恶意的 player", meaning he would not want to hurt anyone on purpose 故意的.

Keane was disappointed by the referee's decision, "but most of all I'm disappointed we didn't get something out of the game". To get something out of the game means here to get a good result, or to win.

This was an important game for Birmingham because it was their first game with Alex McLeish as their manager. McLeish left his role as manager of the Scottish national team to join Premiership team Birmingham.

Phenomenal Strike
It was a phenomenal strike… It was a wonderful goal. We have just got to take it a step at a time and that was a massive step.

Alex McLeish, Birmingham Manager

The result looked like it was going to be 2-2 until Sebastian Larsson scored for Birmingham in injury time 伤停补时阶段. McLeish described the goal as "a phenomenal strike 一个了不起的射门. It was a wonderful goal. We have just got to take it a step at a time 一步一个脚印 and that was a massive 巨大的 step."

Phenomenal means really great and the strike is the kick which scored the goal. If you take things a step at a time it means you do things gradually 循序渐进的. Birmingham is struggling 挣扎 at the bottom of the Premiership so this win is great for them. This is why McLeish describes it as a massive step, a big step forward to help the team get better.

Gave Penalty Away
Unfortunately we didn't score early doors, we gave the penalty away and again had to make a big effort to come back.

Gus Poyet, Tottenham Hotspur Assistant Manager

Tottenham's assistant manager Gus Poyet believed the problem was that they "didn't score early doors 早进球", meaning they didn't score early on in the game. He also blames the loss on the fact that they "gave the penalty away 给对方任意球机会 and again had to make a big effort to come back."

To give a penalty away means you do something that gives the other team a penalty kick. Tottenham had to make a big effort which means they had to try very hard to win, and unfortunately they didn't manage it on this occasion
