The Royal Mint Experience

How well do you really know the coins in your pocket? The Royal Mint Experience in Llantrisant offers a wealth of fun learning opportunities for children of all ages. It is the only place in the world where you can watch the UK’s coins being made.

Visitors can go behind the scenes in a 45-minute guided factory experience to follow the journey of a coin where they will experience the sights and sounds of thousands of glistening new coins hot off the press. You even have the chance to strike your very own coin and be photographed surrounded by a fortune.

In addition, the interactive exhibition is full of fascinating facts, exhibits and some of the rarest coins in history. Here, you can test your knowledge of the coins that have been made for countries around the world, get up close to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic medals, and listen to the stories of those whose bravery has been rewarded with the UK’s gallantry and service medals.

The Royal Mint is open 7 days a week and is located just 4 miles from Junction 34 of the M4. We advise booking in advance to book the date and time slot you require.

Free entry for badge holders

The Royal Mint Experience is one of over 200 attractions around the UK that Blue Peter badge holders can get into for free.

To gain free entry, each child must have a Blue Peter badge, a valid Blue Peter badge ID card and be accompanied by a full paying or concessionary adult. If a paying adult is accompanied by two children with badges and valid badge cards, free entry will be given for both children.

If a disabled badge holder is accompanied by a registered carer, both can gain free entry. Carers must bring supporting documents.
