RHS Garden Harlow Carr
RHS Garden Harlow Carr is a 58 acre garden on the edge of Harrogate, dominated by water, stone and woodland and very much a part of the surrounding Yorkshire landscape. A site rich in history and heritage, the gardens stand on what was once part of the Forest of Knaresborough, an ancient royal hunting ground, and springs of sulphur water were discovered here in 1734.

Take a stroll along the Streamside garden, one of the longest gardens of its type in the country, which provides a home for many moisture-loving plants, including the vibrant Himalyan blue poppy in spring, as well as Nessie the Logness Monster. In the Woodland, quietly watch from the bird hide as feathered friends visit the feeding station, and see squirrels scramble through the tree tops. Harlow Carr’s Kitchen Garden is full of inspiration for growing your own at home, including raised beds for vegetables, a flower cutting garden and a fruit and herb garden. In the colder months, the famed Winter Walk is all the reason you need to get outdoors to see colourful stems and delicate snowdrops and iris and smell heady floral scents on the air. Don’t forget to take a look in the Alpine House, a beautiful setting for the collection of over 2,000 fascinating alpine plants.
Check out what’s on during the school holidays for plenty of garden-themed family fun all year round, and don’t miss the first RHS Garden Flower Show of the year at Harlow Carr in June. The awe-inspiring Glow illuminations bring the Garden to life in the winter evenings, too. For more information and to find out what’s on, visit the website.
