Turning cloudier and colder

The whole of Wales turned out fine and sunny today with fog in the Marches, around Hay on Wye, clearing by early afternoon.

After a frosty start, it turned out pleasantly mild with spring-like temperatures. Trawsgoed in Ceredigion was the warmest place in the UK with a high of 12 Celsius. But of course, winter is far from over and over the next few days it's going to turn cloudier and noticeably colder too with stronger easterly winds.

This evening will stay clear so temperatures will drop sharply with a widespread frost. A few mist and fog patches forming too, and after midnight low cloud will roll in from England.

Tomorrow will not be as nice as today. Anglesey, northwest Gwynedd, Aberystwyth and the Cardigan Bay coast will wake up to sunshine, but most of the country will start grey, with some mist and fog on the hills as well.

The cloud will be thick enough for a little drizzle or flakes of snow otherwise it will be dry again and the cloud should start to clear from the east later in the afternoon. The wind will pick up, becoming strong in the south west with top temperatures 4 to 7 Celsius.

Tomorrow evening will be dry and clear. Some low cloud will arrive overnight and there will be a penetrating frost because of the strength of the wind. The rest of the week will stay mostly dry and cloudy at times. The best of the sunshine will be in the west and brisk easterly winds will make it feel bitterly cold with widespread overnight frosts.

Over the weekend, there may be a light snow shower in places but apart from that it will stay dry. And it looks like the settled spell will continue until the end of the month with high pressure remaining in charge of our weather.
