All change! Wet and windy weather ahead

Aberporth in Ceredigion enjoyed nearly seven hours of sunshine yesterday and that was followed by a dry and cold Bonfire Night, with a slight frost in places and a few mist and fog patches.

But it's all change today with Atlantic fronts bringing cloud and some patchy rain - with most of the rain in the south and west, and drier conditions in mid and north Wales. It's windier too, with the south to south-easterly wind reaching up to gale force on exposed coasts and hills in the south and west, and gusts of 40-50mph in the north-west. Winds of 53mph were recorded at RAF Valley on Anglesey this afternoon!

Tonight, a cold front will move east bringing some heavier rain. In parts of north, mid and east Wales the temperature fell close to freezing or below last night, but tonight will be much milder, falling no lower than 8-11°C.

Tomorrow, a trough of low pressure will move east bringing some heavy rain. Later in the morning and during the afternoon it will turn drier and brighter, but with showers, heavy in places and a risk of hail and thunder. It will be breezy in the south and west tomorrow, especially on exposed coasts and headlands with top temperatures around 11 or 12°C.

On Saturday the north may be dry and bright for a time but it looks like more rain and heavy showers will spread from the south-west during the day. Highest temperatures will be in the 10 to 12°C range, with a light to moderate south to south-easterly breeze. So if you’re going to the rugby in Cardiff, it looks like an umbrella will come in handy!

On Remembrance Sunday, the wind will be light with a mixture of scattered showers, some dry weather and sunshine, with highs of between 10 and 12°C in the afternoon.

Next week, low pressure will control our weather bringing showers or longer spells of rain and it'll be windy at times.
