November’s here. A time to light up the skies. A time to remember our brave. A time to conveniently forget how bad we are at beating southern hemisphere opponents.
There will be reflections on those who have sacrificed their lives for us throughout Remembrance Sunday and the days following. Roy speaks to Forces’ sweetheart, Dame Vera Lynn on Sunday at 9.30am. Leading us into the silence will be a special documentary at 10.30am called Of Mourning And Memory, which sees Angela Graham explore some of the stories behind Wales’ First World War memorials. Fans of Torchwood may head our way for Captain Jack’s War (Monday, 6.30pm), only to find Dinah Jones telling the story of her grandfather’s experience in the First World War. I hope they stay with it, it’s a cracking tale.

BBC Radio Wales remembers the brave this week
The Autumn Internationals are back. Wales will once again try to break down the mental block that Australia seem to have over us on Saturday at 2.30pm. That’s a subject Chris Corcoran’s going to be delving into in a new series of Korkey’s Autumn Internationals on Friday at 6.30pm. And no good international rugby weekend is complete without Rick O’Shea and Scrum V Radio on Thursday at 7.30pm. This time boys, this time.
And the FA Cup is also back – and back on the BBC too. Newport take on Luton on the BBC Sport Wales website on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, Wrexham host Woking on FM in the north. The rest of us get treated to another afternoon of Lynn Bowles, right after Aled Jones has spoken to comedian Rory McGrath.
Every morning this week we get updates on a man who has decided to spend the week sleeping rough on the streets of New York City. Tom Nasmyth-Shaw from Burry Port, who has an autistic son, is raising money for autism. You can follow his story on Jason’s show.
Eric Unseen are doing their bit for Blaenau Gwent this week (well, aren’t we all). The trio are the Radio Wales Artist of the Week with their catchy new song That Ain’t Love. They’ll be on with Eleri Sion on Wednesday. Expect fireworks. In fact it’s quite a musical week for Eleri: Alfie Boe is performing on the show on Tuesday. And don’t tell Jason, but she’s got Deacon Blue in with her on Thursday!
Finally - and in the spirit of flagging up brilliant radio no matter where it comes from – if you’re not hooked on the Serial podcast, you should be. It’s the true story of a journalist trying to get to the bottom of whether a teenage girl was really murdered by her ex-boyfriend back in 1999. It’s one story being told week after week and we’re currently up to episode 6. Obviously, I’m only listening between the hours of 1am and 5am: I’d encourage you to do the same!
