The weather at the Royal Welsh Show this week was very mixed. It has been cloudy and breezy at times with a few showers, otherwise a lot of dry weather with some sunshine on Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures reached 16 to 20°C - not that high but ideal for walking around the showground. I’ll never forget being at the show in July 2006 which was a scorcher - the temperature in Llanelwedd soared to over 30°C!

Preparations underway for the World Mounted Games at the Royal Welsh Show
Looking ahead, the topsy-turvy weather is set to continue over the next few days. Low pressure over northern France is bringing rain to southern Britain, and some strong winds too. Mid and south Wales will experience plenty of rain; meanwhile parts of the north especially the north coast may stay dry. Temperatures on Friday afternoon only 13 to 16°C; unseasonably cool for July with a light to moderate north to north-easterly breeze.

This evening rain will gradually clear away with the whole country drying-up overnight. The cloud will clear and it’ll be a cool night for the time of year with a north-westerly breeze. Temperatures in Powys will fall as low as 7°C in places, nearer 10 to 13°C on the coast.
Saturday promises to be a much nicer day. It’ll be dry with a mixture of patchy cloud and sunny spells. It’ll feel warmer too with a west to north-westerly breeze. Temperatures on the north and west coast will reach 15 to 17°C with a breeze off the sea. In mid, south and east Wales, temperatures will reach 17 to 20°C with a light to moderate west to north-westerly breeze. The sea temperature will fall between 14 to 16°C.
I’d make the most of the fine weather on Saturday because on Sunday it’s all change again with low pressure over Ireland bringing a spell of rain clearing to showers. The top temperatures will be between 17 and 19°C. It’ll be breezy too, with a freshening south to south-easterly wind veering west to south-westerly in the evening.

So, Saturday is the best day of the weekend if you’ve got any outdoor plans. Next week we’ll experience a mixture of rain, sunshine and showers, breezy at times and feeling cool. Later in the week though there are signs that high pressure may head our way with a fine and more settled end to the month.
