The BBC One HD channel is ready for launch

What is the plan for the spots when regional news would be shown on BBC1? Will the BBC take this opportunity to show they're not London biased and maybe put Reporting Scotland into that gap as they're the only region/nation with HD studios?

Are there new idents for the BBC One HD channel, or were the existing ones prepared in HD?



Will there be the national presentation and regional opt outs for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, as at the moment?

I can't quite work out when the rest of the BBC TV channels are not converted to HD at the same time as BBC One.



It is going to be very confusing for presentation to refer to HD simulcasts on other channels.



"And now on BBC Two, Top Gear. You can also watch this programme on the HD channel. No not that BBC HD channel, the other one. OK, you can also watch Top Gear on a BBC HD channel. No, that doesn't work either. "

Any DOG on this channel then?

Shame about the still caption idea, had hoped for River City or similar to be shown at 1830.

F1 in HD? Any chance please?

When are you going to tell viewers where to find the HD channels.



At the beginning of Tuesaday night's Holby the continuity announcer mentioned BBC HD, but out of an audience of 6m only 99,000 watched in HD.



It's obvious just saying "also in HD" is not enough.



As BBC HD is now in an estimated 5.1m homes (as of end of June), surely your HD ratings should be much higher?



Or do you get different ratings from other organisations other than BARB?

Why not take the opportunity of the launch of BBC1 HD to offer proper full HD on your channels 1920*1080 as opposed to the crippled 1440*1080 that BBC HD currently uses?

Will there be any room to broadcast the Chelsea Flower Show in HD now? Because I have noticed from previous years, the preview show has been on BBC One, and the rest of the time on BBC Two, It just seems daft to have the preview programme on BBC One and BBC One HD and the rest in SD on BBC Two, will you make the shift to full HD for Chelsea?

Like Briantist, I was wondering whether this means new idents for BBC One on Wednesday 3rd November? Or, if we are getting new idents, will these be exclusive to BBC One HD? I haven't heard anything in the press. Interesting that the launch has been timed with the arrival of Danny Cohen as BBC One controller!

I use FREESAT what a mess the chanel numbers are going to be. Are you going to consult with FREESAT and get a better list of numbers?

My guess is older and the non technical viewer even with HD will watch on 101 and 103 and not 108 and 119.

What bitrates will be used for BBC One HD on each platform respectively?



Will the addition of this new HD service result in a further bitrate reduction for the existing BBC HD channel?

So the BBC is the last public service broadcaster to offer it's main channel in HD. It is telling that the BBC was pressured into doing this when Five HD refused to pay the high fees the BBC wanted for the terestrial HD channel. I must admit I don't watch any of the programs Danielle mentions but at least I can watch F1 upscaled. With 52 HD channels available in the UK I watch very little from the BBC these days.



Of course what the BBC calls HD is substandard 1440x1920 and more often than not in legacy stereo.



In a few days time ITV will be transmitting all thier channels in HD. Is it not time for the BBC to add BBC2,3 and 4 in HD.



I am not too worried about regional news as the quaility of the BBC South news is very poor. It is the same stories night after night with very minor variations.



I do agree that something needs to be done about channel numbers. I understand that Sky is in discusions about this.



It is interesting to note that the BBC has moved the 2 SD channels off of the HD transponder. This would now enable them to switch to DVB-S2 which would give an increase of 25% in available bitrate. The BBC could them transmit 1,2,3 and 4 in HD with reasonable bitrates.



Congratulations to Danielle becoming head of BBC 3D as well as BBC HD. I don't know how you fit it all in. This seems a bit odd though as you keep saying that the BBC has no plans to deliver 3D to licence payers. Prehaps you would like to explain in a blog why we have a head of a channel that dosn't exist!!!.

The provision of BBC1 in HD is very welcome, however, unless something is done about the poor syncronisation of Vision and Sound I will find it unmwatchable. I watch HD on Freeview and while ITV HD is fine I find that BBC HD suffers from having the picture a fraction ahead of the sound. This is not an intermittent problem and while things such as Sport Commentary and most Documentaries are unaffected because the voice is off-camera any face to face interviews are obviously flawed.



I find this lack of sync between the lips and the sound being made very distracting. Why has this not been noticed and dealt with? It cannot be insurmountable as ITV appear to have no such problem?

The BBC did have alot of problems with sound sync on BBC HD satellite but these have been fixed. I think you will need to make a technical complaint on the BBC complaints page. They will need to know if you have an external surround amplifier or just using the speakers in your TV. I assume from what you are saying this problem exists with stero as well as surround.

Given the need to move Series Links over from BBC HD to BBC One HD, will we see BBC One HD on the EPG before launch day, or will it all happen in one day - a challenge for those of us away over the launch!

Well I'm pleased with the addition of BBC 1 HD and look forward to BBC HD hours being extended as well.

If ITV can give viewers 4 HD channels at 1920/1080i, it begs the question why BBC HD cannott even muster 1.

Based on the last few Saturday evenings for example, without BBC1 content the entire evening's schedule on BBC HD will just be repeats....

I know what full-HD is, but I am also aware that the BBC don't currently provide that.



So what is "true HD"?

The BBC have certainly missed the boat as far as HD is concerned. They just did not realize how quickly it would become so popular. Today there are 52 HD channels in the UK and the BBC is still only providing one part time service. BBC One HD is a step in the right direction but judging by the schedules there is going to be an awfull lot of upscalled SD. The BBC is just not putting enough money into HD. Well thats not quite true. They have had to put a small fortune into Freeview HD which leaves very little for HD content.



It also looks like the BBC will miss the boat with 3D as well. We already have one 3D channel with several other broadcasters interested in starting 3D channels in the UK but not the BBC. Danielle Nagler head of BBC 3D (the channel that does not exist) has repeatedly said that the BBC has no plans for a 3D channel. So it looks as though the BBC will miss the boat again.



And now that Licence Payers are being forced to pay for the World Service which we don't listen to or want the BBC has even less money for HD let alone 3D. Licence Payers were not even consulted about this major change.

I've just gone to my planner to tape the championship football tomorrow and low behold its not on BBC HD because of Strictly come dancing. You really could not make it up. Hopefully the BBC will loose the championship rights when its up for renewal.

It is very frustraiting that the BBC only has one part time HD channel when they have the satellite capacity for up to 4 channels. ITV and even Five put their football out in HD. The licence fee is looking like very bad value for money.

"True HD" normally means it was filmed using HD Cameras, ie not upscaled. What's more important though is whether the channel transmits in full HD, ie the 1920x1080 lines that our HD TVs are actually capable of, and nearly every other HD channel uses.



Full HD is something BBC HD has uniquely failed to deliver so far, instead broadcasting the BBC's version of HD lite at 1440x1080 pixels not 1920x1020.



Danielle - will BBC One HD broadcast in 1920x1020? As the Head of HD , I'd expect this is something important to you.

BBC ONE HD will be the same as BBC HD - 1440x1080. And any head of an HD channel should find using 1920x1080 important. Sadly as Danielle has shown since she started, the picture quality is of little importance at BBC HD. You sometimes wonder why they even bother having an HD channel.

I don't have HD. But I think the BBC should be able to fill the hours up broadcasting on BBC HD before launching another HD channel. And with the launch of BBC1 HD, I thought the BBC were meant to be shuting down some of their radio stations and TV channels. When you are shutting down BBC channels, you save money. What do you do with that money? You decide to launch another new channel.

And with the channels numbers. BBC HD is on sky channel 143 on sky. Why move BBC HD to a new channel to make way for BBC1 HD? You should keep BBC HD at its original channel number.

I understand you might not have any control over the channel numbers, but you should talk to sky and see if it is possible becuase people who want to watch a program on BBC HD, might go on the channel that they think its on and discover BBC1 HD has moved in. So they spend ages looking for BBC HD. And by the time they have found it, they could have missed most of their program.

I think its a good idea that the BBC should open up more HD channels, but think about what the public want. Think about saving the money. It doesn't last forever.

It is 21 years since the BBC made its first HD programme ... and I can see 3D taking more than a few years to become popular ...

I find the amount of negative comment on here quite disappointing.



As always, it's all about hitting the right balance.



If the BBC were throwing excessive money at new technologies (such as 3D today) which few people are able to view they would be heavily criticised. And rightly so in my opinion. The proportion of people who not only own an HD capable set, but can actually receive and view HD content is only now reaching significant levels. This is in part due to the BBC's involvement in developing delivery mechanisms such as Freesat and Freeview HD. So it has certainly not "missed the boat" as has been suggested, but deserves significant credit for bringing HD to those who don't want or can't afford subscription satellite or cable. As a result, significant and increasing numbers of people will benefit from the investment in BBC HD content and channels.



Would I like full 1920x1080 resolution at higher bit rates, and HD versions of all BBC channels? Of course I would! But we have to recognise that the BBC is constrained in ways that the commercial broadcasters are not. Clearly there are finite funds and finite bandwidth available (particularly on terrestrial) and the BBC does not have the option of launching satellite/cable subscription only channels as ITV is doing.



These constraints are not the fault of the BBC, but it has to work within them none the less.



So I for one would like to say thank you and well done to Danielle and her team, and I look forward to seeing more of my favourite BBC content in HD.

I do agree that having "BBC One HD" and "BBC HD" will likely be confusing to a lot of people. In particular, references to the "BBC HD Channel" surely won't work when there are two of them!



I've seen various suggestions, but renaming BBC HD to something like "BBC Choice HD" (to resurrect an old brand) or "BBC Select HD" would probably work best in my opinion.

I think not, substandard 1440x1080 and very low bitrates have had trier effect. Even the 25% SD rule has been broken in some programs. Even the studio shots in the Commonwealth Games were SD.

This does not mean delivery to Licence Payers. A very large proportion of BBC One output are repeats only available in SD.



As for "Good Content" I would certainly disagree with you on that. Although there have been some notable exceptions BBC One output has generally deteriated over the last 3 years. With 52 HD channels available now in the UK my BBC One viewing is minute.

I would disagree that the BBC has played any significant part in the development of HD in the UK. First place must go to Sky with 52 HD channels and 3.2 million HD subscribers. Infact the BBC would not have been able to start an HD service without Sky. Even today BBC HD only transmits 9 hours per day and most of that is repeats. The BBC is the last PSB to provide an HD version of it's main channel.



As you say it is a question resources but the fact is they have waisted enormouse quanities of money. They spent over 1 billion refurbishing broadcasting house with 200 thousand of that was for the World Service to add a new country. There are numerous other examples of the BBC's missuse of licence payers money eg DAB radio.

The above arguments sound ok, but look at the facts and they don't hold up to scrutiny.



I understand the Freeview HD situation and I'm prepared to park the fact that the BBC played a big part in setting a Freeview HD standard that most folks now acknowledge just doesn't deliver enough bitrate for decent picture quality. But take the situation on satellite...



The research that the BBC HD Picture Quality Campaign did proved that the BBC had empty, unused bandwidth left on the Astra transponder. After every HD channel bitrate cut the BBC has pretty much done nothing with the empty space left over, but continued to pay for the whole transponder worth of space. We asked if the leftover bandwidth could be used to improve picture quality, and got the answer that yes it could but they didn't want to "exceed customer expectations.. if they needed to cut it back in the future".



So breaking your argument down into its logical component parts:

1. "The BBC has no funding for 1920 resolution production"

- The BBC have already filmed the programmes in 1920, so no costs there. They actually downgrade the picture quality to transmit it at 1440 lines.



2. "The BBC has no funding to buy the bandwidth"

- For the past two years the BBC have had empty space on the BBC HD transponder. Space that was already paid for. Effectively they have been using licence fees to transmit nil bits down from Astra.



3. "There is a limitation on bandwidth."

Do you really believe there isn't enough bandwidth for one , now two proper HD channels that are free to air? If you analyse the transponders the BBC rents , they are not full.



Now maybe you buy the argument that the empty space is for "future expansion". I'd buy that argument too if the space is left empty for a month or so, but there has been plenty of BBC prebooked Astra bandwidth that has been left unused for years.

The 1440x1080 resolution used by the BBC is simply because of freeview HD if you ask me and the bandwith constraints it has. Because 1920x1080 requires slightly more bandwith, the BBC do not want to be seen giving one platform a better picture - so we all have to suffer - Even though theres plenty of bandwith available on satelite.



I guess its not just the people at BBC HD who do not care about quality, the state of DAB radio for the BBC is just as bad.

They've got a lot to do in five and a half months!! That's not what the Q&A says.



Can I see all my favourite BBC One programmes in HD?



The new HD channel will simulcast a network version of the BBC One schedule and will show the majority of peak time programmes in HD. Almost every other programme will be upscaled.



When will everything be in true HD?



By 2012 it is expected that the vast majority of all BBC One titles across all hours will be in true HD.

Any news on if it will be DOGged? If it is, I'll stick to SD.

Where is it in B & W that BBC HD is tx'd in 1440*1080, someones post suggested that it was only on Freeview is that correct ? It seems very daft that considering that the delivery requirements are on HDCam SR, so there must be some processing going on there then from machine to TX chain ?



RE 25 % SD rule - isn't that across a series ? The Kingswood HD Analyser that measures this at Tech Review can be cheated I've heard !!

The 1440 issue is explained in #46 but is very easy to see. Just compare the graphics on Sky News HD and those on the BBC HD. Graphics on BBC HD is fuzzy but those on Sky News HD are pixel clear.



Well I already pay for BBC2 ,3 and 4. It is just that the BBC has a policy that it won't transmit any HD which it can't put out on Freeview HD. It also deliberatly reduces the quality on satellite to match the low quality of Freeview HD.



The reason that this discusion became so technical is that the BBC tried to defend its position with rather spurious technical arguments. In the end it was shown that the lack of HD from the BBC was political.



Some new transponder space on terestrial may become available soon when Ofcom starts to sell off some of the channels. The catch is that the BBC would need bid for those frequencies at a time when it is short of cash. The bidding rules have not been decided yet but it is possible that anyone could bid including Sky.

The BBC discuss the fact they only transmit HD in 1440*1080 in many places. For example, in Andy Quested's blogs such as https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2009/12/the_hitchhikers_guide_to_encod_2.html



This applies to both Freeview HD and Freesat HD.



Annoyingly for UK licence payers, BBC Scandinavia and BBC America both broadcast at 1920*1080

From her comments here it could be construde that the reason the BBC uses substandard 1440 resolution is to save money on having to upgrade scenary to a much higher standard.



She also says:

I assume she is talking about HD channels here. As we know there is no guarantee that any more space will be available on Freeview for HD. This means that there is no guarantee that the BBC will be able to add any more HD channels.



She also says that BBC News will not go HD till 2013 when Sky already has 2 HD news channels. So the BBC will still be outputing alot of upscalled SD till 2013.

BBC should just focus on Freesat. Freeview has all ready proven to be lots of problems for expanding

Have you seen the PQ on ITV2 HD? It's stunning. Record a bit of X-Factor, which ITV1 HD really struggles with (flashing lights, smoke, panning cameras) and compare it with a repeat on ITV2 HD. The difference is unbelievable.



So yes, if Sky broadcast BBC3 and 4 to the standard of ITV2 HD.

I think ITV2 HD is part of the standard HD package so the 3.2 million HD subscribers do not pay any more for it. The same would apply to BBC2 & 3 HD so I would be perfectly happy.

I have allso watched The X Factor on ITV 2 HD , i recorded this on my sky

HD box. This just goes to show what i have been saying for a very long

time now, To see very good high HD Picture Quality, there needs to be

a min Bit Rate, ITV 2 HD use 11.8 mbps and the higher resolution

1920 x 1080i . ITV HD add the same picture Quality as this before

they joined Freeview HD . This is why iam very disappointed with

the very poor picture Quality of BBC HD, LOW Bit Rates of 7 to 8 mbps

do not work...............

Another revalation from Danielle is that only 230,000 Freeview HD units have been sold in the last 5 months. Most people have now gone digital and are reluctant to pay any more for just 4 low quality HD channels. There is also the problem with using AAC surround sound which is not compatable with most Surround Sound Amplifiers. This means that many would have to spend serveral hundreds on a new amp. It is clear that many people are turning to Sky with thier 52 HD channels with more in the pipeline.



Things at the BBC seem to be getting worse and worse. The new licence fee arrangments means that Licence Payers will be paying for the World Service that they neither want or are able to listen too. This was done without any public consultation and I wonder if there might be a challenge to this in the courts.

If the BBC are planning on using the logo shown in the video on the new channel then thy really have lost their minds, its really awful.



I hope this is only a stop-gap measure until BBC One is rebranded on Nov 3rd

Just seen bbc1 hd test transmission via sky. For goodness sake Danielle; Please tell me what I am seeing in the top left hand corner of the screen isnt going to be the DOG for this channel?! It's HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If thats it then you have lost me as a viewer to your new channel. I'd rather stay with the undogged sd version.

I notice that the test transmission currently has a large and ugly DOG in the top-left corner. I really hope this is removed when the channel goes "live".

BBC One has a pretty good picture for an SD channel; the current BBC HD has a pretty poor picture for an HD channel.



If we're going to be saddled with a DOG then I really question whether the slight improvement in picture quality is worth it.

If BBC One SD doesn't need to carry a DOG, then I cannot see why the HD version needs to.



I've also seen the test this morning with the DOG and this is just laughable. Of course, we understand that the channel is testing but I would have thought any DOG decision would have been made before tests started. It currently puts the DOG on Living Loves to shame.



Surely the BBC must realise that their flagship channel in HD needs to be completely DOG free. Or are we "barking" up the wrong tree here?

Wow, BBConeHD the pride and joy of BBC HD output. The place where people from all nations should look for quality HD television. Yet It's lower quality than BBC HD channels broadcast in other countries and now that Hideous obstruction telling us what channel we are watching? Who said British television was dumbing down, because they were right! Hopefully that DOG will be dropped before launch.

I don't have short-term memory issues, and I am intelligent enough to know which channel I'm watching without a constant on-screen reminder.



You made this mistake in 1998 with the digital versions of BBC One & Two. The DOGs had to go, and eventually did. Just save yourself the trouble of an embarassing climbdown, and launch this channel without a DOG!

This interview paints an even dimmer picture of the future for HD from the BBC. Clearly no new HD channels for years. She even rules out the BBC using any new space which may become available on terestrial for HD. This is very disapointing and simply leaves the BBC in the dark ages as far as HD is concerned.

What an increadable statement from the person who has overseen the bigest decrease in quality the BBC has ever seen. The BBC has certainly devalued HD.



I think we can conclude the BBC will be delivering next to nothing in 3D.



Freeview HD is becoming a very expensive loose around the neck of the BBC. Initial take up has been very slow and is now unlikely to have the success of freeview SD.



It seems clear to me that the Licence Fee is becoming totally unjustified. With every other PSB moving all thier channels HD why should we pay such alot of money for a technically inferior service.

Danielle, I like the "BBC HD can now be found on Freesat 109, Freeview 54, Sky 169 and Virgin Mwdia 187" tha you have on the BBC One HD placecard.



Why can't similar wording be put on the regular SD channels' idents, when there is an HD simulcast?



I'm sure ratings would improve if viewers are told where they could find the HD channels, as many can't be bothered to retune or assume they're watching HD by default.

On looking at the test transmission I find I must agree with the other comments about the DOG.

Please make it smaller.

I am hoping that you will follow similar guidelines to BBC HD and not show it all on some types of programming.

When it is on screen it is laudably transparent, but PLEASE, don't make it any larger than the BBC HD ident, and make sure it is tucked well into the corner.

Preferably, could I suggest that you follow the American example and stick it in the bottom corner where it is less likely to cover faces and interfere with the action.

Ideally scrap it altogether.

@ 75. The only way BBC HD will increase its viewers by a decent margin is by sorting out the picture quality - This means 1920 x 1080 picture resolution, an increas in bandwith and an improvement in production values. Sadly under Danielles leadership this probably will not happen.



BBC HD died along time ago and sadly is showing no signs of resurection.

I've been thinking about DOGs and come to the conclusion they are totally irrelevant no matter what broadcasters think.

There are several ways to select a channel for viewing:

1) Navigation via an EPG.

2) Random channel selection via EPG.

3) Entering a channel number directly via remote keypad.

4) Entering a random channel number via remote keypad.

5) Channel surfing and stopping when the receiver's on-screen banner indicates the required channel.

6) Channel surfing and stopping at random.

Methods 1, 3 and 5 require the viewer to know what channel they wish to view. Therefore, the DOG is irrelevant.

Methods 2, 4 and 6 mean the viewer doesn't care what channel they are looking at. Therefore, the DOG is irrelevant

The DOG is IRRELEVANT - please remove it!

I'm really glad that BBC1 HD is launching, this will solve some scheduling issues I'm sure.



No-one's mentioned it yet but I'm sure I saw a clip of Victoria Wood's Christmas special in the video. Please PLEASE make sure that appropriate content is in 50Hz motion. The last V.W. Christmas special looked appalling, especially the 'lets do it' routine at the end. Full of Judder and low shutter/mixer artifacts.



Comedy does not suit 25Hz motion. The live comedy roadshow does NOT look live. The stage set swims with artifacts on pans. Furthermore, the well known 'arty' wobbly hand cam 'technique' is even worse with 25p.

On a similar tack, Hardtalk with the Chilean president was shot in 25p (Why?) and flicker could be seen on the presenter BLINKING!

Personally, I can't wait for BBC One HD on Freeview - even if it is 'only' 1440 x 1080i. HD is the only way to watch TV on modern 40"+ TV panels.



Regarding Danielles Digital Spy interview, I would agree that it's going to be a while before we see any more BBC channels in HD on Freeview - this will only now happen when enough of the digital receivers out there have expired and we can have a 'Digital Switchover 2.0' so that all Digital Terrestrial uses the DVB-T2 standard.



However, I would advise Danielle to research her comment that 'In our view, you can't stream HD over IP networks'..... Funny then that I can stream (rather than Download) BBC HD programming to my HDTV via the iPlayer implementation on my Sony Blu-Ray Player ;-)



Does she actually mean 'stream live HD programming', and is this just a server loading issue (i.e. the demand for live HD programming would be much higher than streaming 'on demand' content to different people at different times)?

The BBC used 3.2mb/s for HD streaming on iplayer. Many people have speeds much less than this and so only a few will benifit. In any case the iplayer is only 1280x720.



I must admit that Danielles comments about using the internet are a bit strange. Why should the Internet be prefered to Satellite. The BBC already has sufficient transponder space to transmit BBC1, 2, 3, and 4 in HD. Of course some people cannot get Freeview but the same applies to the internet. I get the impression that the BBC is desperate to get everyone to stick to Freeview even if that means Licence Payers get an inferior service. I think that they are afraid that if people switch to satellite they are likely to go for Sky who will give far more competition.



There is another big threat to the BBC and that is the fourth comming sale of terestrial transponder space. Sky has enough money to buy several transponders which they could use for thier own terestrial service.

There has been some comment the Channel Numbers on Feesat. I have suggested that Freesat should have put ALL their HD channels in the 150+ range, not used currently.

151 - BBC1 HD

152 - BBC HD (later perhaps BBC2 HD)

153 - ITV1 HD



And so on leaving appropriate spaces for Channel 4 & Five to come to their senses

@84 As the gap widens in sales it will be less likely that HD channels will give up the BSkyB/Virgin incentives.



In the last six months alone, between them, the two platforms have added 1,125,000 new HD homes. That's more than the total unit sales of Freesat SD/HD since launch two and a half years ago.

Surely the BBC have more HD programming being produced for BBC2/3/4 than this?

At least it allows The First Men in the Moon to get a decent slot, rather than its HD premiere in the early hours!!

Miss Nagler, as well as asking you to seriously re-consider the DOG on BBC1 HD before you ruin the BBC's flagship channel completely and deter viewers from watching the service, I think you need to give thought to a re-name for the BBC HD channel. Perhaps BBC Choice HD?

This BBC One H.D channel Will be Less Confusing for Everyone. I noticed that with BBC H.D channel Many People Didn't find out how to Get A program In H.D. Some Didn't know the Number of BBC H.D. Channel. Many People were confused When they saw a Program on The BBC H.D Channel e.g The One Show A.t 7.00pm from BBC one and The next program was a Repeat on the BBC H.D at 7.30pm as of BBC One there would Be EastEnders. Many People Hated The Fact that they had to Keep changing the channel for all the programs that were on BBC One to watch Them.

Now Their Is no Need to change the channels because the BBC One H.d Channel has all of the BBC One programs will be shown on The BBC One H.D Channel

even If they are not In True H.d.



This Could Make H.d Viewing Ratings go up and Maybe The First step to having all the BBC Channels in H.d.

I won't watch any BBC One HD programmes that have a DOG - I'd rather watch the SD version - please do not use a DOG on this channel.

Please do not use a DOG. It is redundant.

Please ensure BBC HD has the best example of HD transmission quality.

I don't know why channels have to show DOGs -- my satellite receiver shows the channel I'm watching on the LCD Panel, I can also press the EPG or "i" (info) button for now and next. On my freeview television I can press "i" or guide.



Also when changing channels on any platform shows what channel you've switched to and tells you what you're watching!



Just get rid of DOGs from all channels.



Also I don't need to be told the channel is in HD, light on my receiver and info bar tells me this!

If the BBC insists on having a logo:

The 'one' in the logo should be the same size as 'bbc' and underneath it and more transparent.

Please, no DOG for BBC One HD or I shall revert to watching the SD version. (The improvement in picture quality is barely noticeable in any case.)
