The selling of Grange Farm means that Susan and Neil Carter could be facing the invasion of their immaculate home, Ambridge View, by Ed, Emma, George, Keira and Holly the dog.
Surely the most house-proud person in the village, every element of Ambridge View has been carefully chosen by Susan and she’s fanatical about maintaining her high standards.
A mix of young children, dogs, cake-baking and a busy farmer are not conducive to elegantly arranged scatter cushions and to be fair to Susan, the junior branch of the Grundy family do have form for raining chaos to the jewel in Susan’s crown.
The young family lived with Susan and Neil for a while back in 2013/14; a period which saw Susan’s precious crystal bowl being broken by a toddling Keira, Susan following Ed around with a mop wiping away his boot prints and worst of all, Ed vomiting spectacularly on Susan’s sofa after drowning his sorrows at The Bull.
Once Emma began helping Fallon out with her cafe business and producing cakes, the kitchen became a battleground for Susan and Emma. Ed’s attempts to be helpful led to a ticking off about his incorrect loading of the dishwasher and he got a severe telling off for failing to keep Susan informed of his whereabouts.
Emma felt tense as Susan made her only too aware of her family’s shortcomings and she therefore spent a great deal of time hurriedly hiding spillages and mess. In turn, Ed tried to temper his frustration. He was both grateful and ashamed that he was having to accept Susan and Neil’s charity.
As grandparents, Neil and Susan do genuinely love seeing so much of George and Keira, but sometimes when it comes to families, a little bit of distance can help quite a lot...
