Harrison Burns has taken on the mantle of Ambridge Cricket Team Captain. He succeeds Alistair Lloyd who has led the team for nearly 20 years.
Alistair was first elected captain in November 1998, working alongside Sid Perks as the team’s manager until he retired from the role in 2004.
Alistair stood down briefly in July 2009 and Adam Macy, a stalwart of the Ambridge team, took over for the rest of the season. However, by the end of that year Alistair was re-instated as captain, reclaiming the title in a very close vote between him and Adam.
Despite their long-running rivalry for the top spot in the Ambridge cricket team the two men have an enduring friendship and remain committed team-mates.
So far this season Ambridge have languished at the bottom of their league. For their home match against Waterley Cross they couldn’t even field a team. Embarrassment over the poor performance is amplified by the team’s success last year. They won the league trophy which is pride of place over the bar at The Bull.
To Alistair’s surprise, Adam was not keen to step into the breach as he bowed out from leading the team. For now, Adam's work at Home Farm and the Estate keep him too busy for him to take on the role. Plus, he's aware that he and his husband Ian need to spend more time together.
So, the team looks to a relatively new player for direction. PC Harrison Burns, who has shown skill on the pitch as part of the team, has stepped up to lead ailing Ambridge.
Has Harrison got what it takes to improve the team’s fortunes? What's more, can Fallon surpass Shula when it comes to the cricket tea?
