On your marks

Can you guess what happens today? No it’s not the International Day of Awesomeness, that was last Monday. After weeks of waiting the music finally begins to flow through the streets of Austin as the likes of Van Morrison, Simian Mobile Disco and Okkervil River kick off 5 days of indie electro, shoegaze, synthy, new wave, old wave, nu rave mayhem.
No forgetting metal, as Brooklyn Vegan remind us that we really should make time to catch up with Lemmy and his Motorhead friends, who headline the Vice Scion showcase along with Napalm Death and High On Fire at Stubbs tomorrow afternoon.
The good folk at HearYa have also been busy posting about their party picks. They single out gigs featuring the likes of Lightspeed Champion, The Spinto Band and Canadian electronica experimenters Holy F#%k today, and will no doubt be in the audience to see New Zealander’s Die! Die! Die!, Tapes N Tapes and Starsailor (yes kids, Starsailor) tomorrow.
Some Velvet Blog on the other hand are giddy with excitement about seeing the heavily remixed and highly interesting My Brightest Diamond, Melbourne’s Cut Copy and Philadelphia’s Dr. Dog as well as the psych-folk stylings of The Dodos and California’s WHY?
In other news, Radio 1’s Bethan Elfyn has decided on a change of tact with for her stay at this year’s showcase. She’s booked herself into The Bed Box Inn, on the outskirts of Austin for the next few days. How she survives amongst the coyotes and cacti remains to be seen, but you can read more about it on the BBC Introducing blog.
Don’t forget the BBC Introducing showcase tomorrow at Rio. Until then here a video treat from the aforementioned Dodos:
