Dr Ranj Singh becomes the sixth celebrity to leave Strictly

It's always sad when someone leaves the Ballroom, but tonight we had to say goodbye to another much-loved Strictly star: Dr Ranj Singh.

He performed a firework-themed Samba with Pro partner Janette Manrara on Saturday's show, earning a strong score of 27 and landing third from the bottom of the leaderboard. However, following the public vote the couple found themselves in the Dance-Off for the first time this series, facing Charles Venn and Karen Clifton in their third Dance-Off to date.

Once both couples had performed again, the Judges placed their votes to save their dancing duos of choice. Despite Craig Revel Horwood voting in Dr Ranj's favour, Charles was kept in the competition by the remaining three Judges.

Head Judge Shirley Ballas sealed the decision by saying: “Both couples have made little iddy-biddy errors that I can see, but due to great timing and sophistication, I am going to choose Charles and Karen.”

It was an emotional goodbye for Dr Ranj, who told Tess: “I can’t express how much this has meant to me. I have made friends for life. I’ve done something that I only could have dreamed of. I just want to say to anyone who ever dreams of this you can, you really can, ’cause I’m here and I’ve done it.”

Pro dancer Janette Manrara also poured praise on her partner, saying: “He is an incredible human being for what he does as an actual job. He is there saving children’s lives and he is a special, special man. On this show you get to celebrate people that have never done something like this before, and for me Ranj is the epitome of what Strictly Come Dancing is about."

The competition really won't be the same without Dr Ranj's beaming smile, but you can catch him for one last time on It Takes Two tomorrow at 6.30pm on BBC Two!
