Despite performing a highly-praised Rumba on Saturday night with Pro partner Karen Clifton, and scoring a respectable 35 points as a result, Charles found himself joint bottom of the leaderboard in Musicals Week.

Following the public vote, the pair landed in the Dance-off for the fourth time this series, facing Ashley Roberts and partner Pasha Kovalev in their second bottom two experience.

Once both couples had performed again, the Judges voted for who they wanted to save, which proved particularly difficult this week. When making her decision, Darcey Bussell said: “This is horrible to make a choice between these two, but the couple I would like to save on the pure complexity and brilliance of the dance is Ashley and Pasha.”

Her fellow Judges also voted the same way, bringing Charles' Strictly journey to an end.

When leaving the competition, Charles shared his appreciation for this Pro partner, telling Tess: "Before I go through dances or memories, I have to pay extreme homage to this woman here, because Karen Clifton turned me into a promising dancer. A promising dancer honestly! This woman has been by my side and supported me - she’s been strict, she’s been solid, she’s been caring and loving, sensitive, intuitive, and I’m adamant that without her I don’t know how I would have got to this level.”

Karen also had words of support for Charles, saying: "I can only say that you have been the most humble, the most professional person who I’ve ever worked with. And thank you for always respecting me as a woman, as a friend and as a teacher, and I will never forget this journey that we had together.”

Sadly they won't be moving onto the Strictly Semi-Final, but you can still see them together on Monday's It Takes Two on BBC Two at 6.30pm.
