Strictly Leader Board: Week Eight
What a super Strictly live show that was! Our nine couples hit the Ballroom with a burning passion, a passion to make it through to Blackpool next week!
Topping the leader board this week, with an incredible series record score of 39, was Georgia and Giovanni! Georgia was thrilled to be finally dancing the Charleston to Hot Honey Rag from Chicago as it’s her favourite film and the dance she’s most been looking forward to perform. Their performance did not disappoint and some sublime hatography, a gravity-defying lift and some nifty synchronised moves proved a big hit with the judges.
Hot on the heels of Georgia and Giovanni were Helen and Aljaž and Peter and Janette who both scored 34. Helen and Aljaž’s Tango to Hold Back The River saw them holding nothing back. Helen’s usually sunny disposition was put on hold as she adopted a fierce persona for her Tango. The characterisation paid off with Darcey commenting that the “drama was perfection”.
Peter and Janette wowed the judges with a flowing Viennese Waltz to You’re My World by Cilla Black. Inspired by a visit from his kids in training this week, Peter put in an assured and elegant performance which impressed the judges. Although slipping from the top spot, Peter was pleased with the judges’ comments and very happy when they gave their scores!

Kellie and Kevin bounced back from the shock of last week’s Dance Off with a punchy routine based on 90’s Hip Hop. Their Samba to Boom Shake The Room was loved by Craig and Bruno for its risks and originality. Unfortunately Darcey wasn’t moved and it wasn’t quite Head Judge Len’s cup of tea, so Kellie and Kevin were given a score of 33. Anita and Gleb remained consistent with their show opening Quickstep to Don’t Get Me Wrong which scored them a healthy 32.
Katie and Anton continued to set records this week with their Rumba to Never Never Never by Shirley Bassey. A few minor flaws saw the judges discard their top score paddles, but Katie and Anton still received a respectable score of 31 which is the highest Rumba score of the series so far!
Unfortunately a few couples struggled on the night and failed to wow the Judges. A little stumble from Jay and Aliona saw their Foxtrot to Lay Me Down score 30 from the judges whilst Jamelia and Tristan received mixed reviews for their Samba to A Little Respect and scored 26.

But it was Jeremy and Karen who sit at the bottom of the leader board after their Quickstep to Going Underground saw them score 21. Craig was especially hard on their dance saying it was “like being at the national dressage championship”, though Head Judge Len said he enjoyed the entertainment that the couple bring to Strictly.
