Strictly Come Dancing's 2010 Launch Show

Post categories:

BBC Strictly GemmaBBC Strictly Gemma|16:00 UK time, Thursday, 26 August 2010

Remember toput Saturday 11th September 2010 in your diary as Strictly Come Dancing returns with a brand new one-hour studio launch show.

tvcentre.jpgThe show will be recorded at the BBC's world-famous Television Centre on Wednesday 8th, and of course we will be on the red carpet, keeping you lucky fans up to date with all the glamorous action via Twitter, Facebook and the BBC's official Strictly Come Dancing website.

Inside the studio, for the first time ever, the audience will get to see the celebrities being paired with their professional dance partner on the Strictly set.

Previously these "first meets" were filmed in training rooms, but this year the identity of who is partnering who will be kept secret until they meet on the Strictly dancefloor. This will give us all the chance to watch each joyous (or not so joyous!) reaction.

The professional dancers and celebrities will also perform a group dance giving viewers the chance to pick out their favourites!

Once the show is over it's time for the couple training to begin. But will they be ready for the first live show just three weeks later?

  • Comment number 3.

I'm sure you've seen the News Blog entry now, LiliaT, but for those who haven't, you can about read why there's no Messageboards on the site here:

This comment was removed because the moderators found it broke the house rules. Explain.

  • Comment number 5.

I'm intrigued as to how these pro/celebs are going to manage a dance routine together on the launch show when they will never have met up before. Should be funny to watch....:D

  • Comment number 6.

So we have to put up with Alesha again. Do the BBC not take any notice of viewers comments about last year. As there are 3 new male dancers I can already imagine some of the comments she will make. Can someone please stop that dreadful laugh we have to put up with.

  • Comment number 8.

    I too share Dilly's intrigue (Comment 5)

They will be meeting each other for the 1st time and will then do a group dance with their pro's/celebs without having never met.

Lets hope its not a Dance Disaster !

  • Comment number 9.

same old same old why fix something that is not broken, Claudia always refers to the message boards and the message board comunity will be missed the comments and humour on the boards was all part of the fun you had like minded having a moan and groan about a program they obviously love to watch and take part in thier own twisted way

  • Comment number 10.

we love and will miss you Mrs Bennet it will not be the same with out you I hope you visit the studio and give us your lovely smile

  • Comment number 11.

Can someone from the BBC answer if Matthew Cutler will be taking part in the launch show ?? i read on another blog that questions will be answered with this new blog format so there is a question for you.

  • Comment number 12.

@veryinterestingbutstupid - Throughout all of this year's It Takes Two, Claudia will be using THIS News Blog to ask for everyone's comments and questions for the show, in exactly the same way she got comments from the messageboards last year. So no change really!

@mamacoosa - I don't know I'm afraid. I'll ask when everyone's back in the office after the Bank Holiday.

  • Comment number 13.

Thanks you StrictlyPaul, lots of Matt fans out here would like to see him......let us know !!

  • Comment number 14.

I don't like the fact that we have the launch show, then have to wait 3 weeks for the main show to start. I can't wait that long! Hahaha.

Oh, hello mamacoosa! & any of my other old friends from the forum.

According to one of the pro's twitter.. Matt is choreographing? Do hope so :)

  • Comment number 15.

Does anyone know what time the Launch Show will be filmed on 8th September? I've applied for tickets, hope I'll be successful ! and would like to plan my journey to London. Assuming it'll be in the afternoon?

  • Comment number 16.

Hi StrictlyJodie MC,was wondering if you would be around,i was ver much looking forward to carrying on our thread from last year and maybe getting a bit of info now and again from the all seeing eye (if you remember !!).

I believe that Matt is choreographing for the launch show but can only hope he appears on it as well.

  • Comment number 17.

omg i really cant wait. not long 2 go now. wanna know for sure which celebrities are in this year's show... x

  • Comment number 18.

    Mamacoosa, how could I forget!

Yes, like many people have said.. I don't understand. If the pro/celebs meet on the show. How are they going to perform a group dance on the same show? When they haven't met before? That would be interesting...

  • Comment number 19.

They will be meeting each other for the 1st time and will then do a group dance with their pro's/celebs without having never met.

I like to how will they will do a group dance with their partners without never meeting. It is great that we can see them meeting each other for the first time on the launch show, but that part with the group dance is confusing me.

  • Comment number 20.

Hi Jodie, how could we forget indeed !!is your other website still going ?? or do you ever go on other forums ??

Will watch the celeb part this year now and again prob but with some detached interest, always watch the pro dances and then Matt if we can find out when he's on.

  • Comment number 21.

Other website is still going mamacoosa, there's a forum on that! Trying to get everyone on that.

  • Comment number 22.

When do we find out if we've been successful in getting tickets for the launch show?

  • Comment number 23.

I do hope that i'll be able to access the links, as i was unable to do so last year as i'm in Ireland, i thought this was unfair as although i dont pay a UK license fee, i'm still boosting your ratings, so please make it possible for us fans from over seas to gain access!:O)

  • Comment number 24.

I totally Tiger Lily, very annoying when I can't look at clips because I'm in Ireland and now that the message board is gone it won't be really worth coming onto this site. Hopefully the video clips will get sorted out. Can't wait for the show to start.

  • Comment number 25.

Concerning post 6,I do not mind Alesha's laugh, but I find her bad grammar detracts from what she is actually saying,so I do hope that it has improved since last year.

  • Comment number 26.

"@mamacoosa - I don't know I'm afraid. I'll ask when everyone's back in the office after the Bank Holiday"

Did you manage to find out if Matthew Cutler is in the launch show ??

    Thanks.

  • Comment number 27.

The Strictly facebook discussions tab is looking for you. Yes you the old scd board users who may have idly stumbled over this blog page and wondered what what on Earth was going on.

Dozens of SCD fans on facebook have already told me (as late as today) they are confused and don't understand what is happening and why can't they post on a board here. I can't help them here but I am trying to easy the pain over at facebook.

    https://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=14833&uid=146214266618#!/bbcstrictly?ref=ts

Where is such and such or I hope that (enter bbc id of choice) finds us at facebook, I hear constantly. I hope that you reading this may head over and find old friends. New friends welcome too :)

  • Comment number 28.

    StrictlyPaul ?? any answer ????

  • Comment number 29.

Why go back to a pre-recorded Sunday night results show? This totally sucks as you will be able to find out who has been eliminated online beforehand.

SCD loses its impact when it is not live. It's why the Christmas Special always comes across as lacking spark and spontaneity.

  • Comment number 30.

Hi Mamacoosa: Yes, just heard back that Matt has choreographed the opening pro dance routine for the Launch Show. He's certainly going to be mentioned - no idea if he'll be appearing on-screen yet though.

  • Comment number 31.

StrictlyPaul, thanks for your answer even though it wasn't the one i wanted to hear (if Matt was appearing you would know it at this late stage) it seems completely baffling to me to have him choreograph the opening routine/to have him around and not have him dancing,i know he decided not to be part of the dance troupe but you have to wonder about the terms/contract he was offered for him to reject it.

If Matt is going to be mentioned i wonder how the BBC will explain his non-appearance on launch night ??

Good Luck to all associated with SCD this year and the new guys but Matt won't be forgotten that easily by a lot of viewers and should have been paired with a celeb or offered something to allow us to see him dance more than once or twice, can only hope he does some ITT interviews/behind the scenes vids for this website like the Strictly Confidentials last year but somehow i doubt it.

If the lady is still there that used to tell the Cutler thread last year about the SCs every Friday.......hello and thanks to her.

  • Comment number 32.

Have just watched the launch show, and I have to say I am really impressed. Well done BBC . You have thought about how to win your audience back, and if the launch show is wnything to go by, you are well on the way. Oh yes...and God bless Anton. Bless him - what a hero !

  • Comment number 33.

Totally agree Pasopamela - well said!

  • Comment number 34.

    Well Said Pasopamela,

Bring on the 1st of Oct.:)

  • Comment number 35.

just watched recording of launch show- bbc have lost the plot and this viewer. seems to me the whole thing is now so contrived: 1- get rid of the pro-dancers who are unlikely to form a 'relationship' with their celebrity partner, (that could possibly have made for 'interesting' viewing and hence increase ratings);2- pair anton & erin with the token golden-oldies again; 3- make sure ola can't win this year; 4- pair all the younger celebs with the new young pros. i am so not interested in watching ann widecombe do a 'john sargeant', even with her talented partner. last of all, i can't take any more of bruce, even if he's not doing the results show. can't do without claudia, though, so i'll make do with 'takes 2' and hopefully ian, matthew etc might make an appearence.

  • Comment number 36.

Thanks again for all your comments on this topic.

I had been a fan of STRICTLY But who is this homophob man PAUL DANIELs -he was rude to Craig. Craig was giving him some great advice to IMPROVE his DANCING. Paul Daniels made a DISGUSTING Remark about Craig not giving up his day job as a sausage taster. WOULD HE HAVE SAID THAT TO ALEISHA!! The bloke is a horrible and a BAD Dancer! I like the lady from the good life with freckles!!!.

I do not know who this Paul Daniels fallow thinks he is but he should go back to his rest home! Most old people in Britin will hate me for this but hey, I am in Scotland and they will not know who this wier d guy is!! And they vote!! bit I do not know who this old fool is but he shoulod learn to be good mannered like felicity kendall is and my family will vote for her unless some one else will dance better (being truthful we all really like the kiwi ausis scottie girl pammy connely!!)!!!

Paul Daniels is obviously older than Len who is older than Brucie!! Love Brucie!!

  • Comment number 38.

I couldn't agree more with post 37, Jan F, Paul Daniel's remark to Craig was unnecessary and deeply offensive as you could tell from the audience’s poor response. If he's looking for support from viewers, and with his lack of dancing ability he's going to need it, he'll need to think before he speaks.

Moving on I thought the show was okay but still feel somewhat sorry for Anton who yet again has no chance of winning. However, I must applaud the way he enters into the spirit of SDC - it wouldn't be the same without him.

Does anyone else miss Ian as much as I do? I realise that things have to change in showbusiness, but losing Matt, Darren, Brian and especially Ian is just a step too far. They are pure quality as opposed to pure gimmicks.
