Both words that can send a chill but as many listeners are pointing out, there's light in the sky by 5pm now and a spring in their step. Me, I'm waiting for light at 7 before I get too excited, but then I will trip and skip home, buying flowers and greeting strangers. Hey ho for Sir Roger De Coverley.
Sad news overnight with the passing of Pete Seeger. I'm not of the vintage to remember his impact as 'the tuning fork of America' but grew up with Guantanamera, Little Boxes and his Michael Row The Boat Ashore. I know that the Folk Awards have always wanted to get him for a lifetime achievement award but I understand he was reluctant to leave New York so never made it. But I'm sure next month's awards will put something together in tribute to one of the greats of American music; he played with Woody Guthrie, founded The Weavers, banned and lauded for his protest songs and influenced generations of singers. What a man.
Today we announce the new Book club choice-it's a belter- and welcome David Baddiel. He's mainly a writer really these days but is off doing a sort of stand-up, which is essentially a meditation on the nature of fame and his uneasy relationship with it. So FAME and BEING FAMOUS as your musical search today please...
