Light up your face with gladness

Sunny morning for all it seems. Happy Monday y'all! Hope that weekend was a corker. We had rolling birthday BBQs which seemed to last all weekend. And actually they did. The food prep and washing up was a non-stop operation. The ritual is great, the outdoors is great, the atmosphere is great. The food however is best cooked indoors, and this isn't just because of last weeks bbq sausage confession. Anyone whose job has been the cleaning of the BBQ knows this is true.

Today, fingernails clean, it's another book club. It is The Lightkeeper's Daughters by Jean E Pendziwol, an award winning Canadian children's writer. This is her debut as an adult novelist and it's a powerful and evocative tale of memory, family and lighthouses (obviously). Set on and around Lake Superior it tells the story of Elizabeth and Emily, the daughters of the title and Elizabeth's quest to understand her father's recently recovered logbooks. Read a chapter here! Then here Jean after 6.

And on World Emoji Day (yes really) your EMOJI oldies can light up the show!
