Early blog here, morning to all. Wednesday at last. I spent most of yesterday thinking it's Wednesday, so now I'd better make the most of it. Filming in the misty early dawn of the capital takes me to the Royal Institution and I need to be able to walk, smile, talk and pretend to know what I'm talking about. It's a fascinating place, full of the ghosts of science past all of whom will be whispering in my ear and trying to put me off 'What are you doing here?' is the gist of their message.
Then to interview Will Ferrell about Anchorman 2 and then, at last, to Radio 2. Drivetime today with journalist Simon Garfield. We spoke to him about typography and fonts with his book Just My Type, thenhis last book On The Map about the history of er, maps. Now he's picked on another threatened activity-letter writing. It is a journey through the mail and is a rallying cry to put pen to paper. 'A world without letters is like a world without oxygen' he says. And as we (maybe) actually scribble a few words in Christmas card-when was the last time you actually wrote a letter with proper writing paper and a pen? Tends not to happen anymore. Actually I think even Christmas cards are waning-are we all down on last year? It seems so. Anyway Simon has found another fascinating area to explore and we'll do ACTUALLY WRITING A LETTER WITH A PEN AND PAPER oldies which should work ok.
Have a winsome and handsome Wednesday, see you after 5
