It don’t mean a thing...

Wednesday already and I feel few treats coming on. Small ones, obviously, nothing too calorific but something that says ‘not bad so far.’ A sparkling water say, or a small digestive. That should do it.

Enjoyed Tunesday, enjoyed Izaak jumping in the Antarctic waters, enjoyed the confessor who dressed as King Louis. Enjoyed everything - and Paul Simon’s Have A Good Time was the icing on the cake.

Can we make today’s a show a treat (rhetorical)? There’s a dazzling book on my desk called Swing Time by Zadie Smith, the author of White Teeth and NW (on TV now) and it is so EFFORTLESSLY BRILLIANT it makes your eyes water. And when I say effortless, I know that isn’t true. Speaking as someone who finds every word hard (another cheer for Robert Seethaler) you can only sit back and marvel. Anyway it's about two mixed race girls who dream of being dancers but only one has talent, the other one has ideas and ends up working for a super-glam pop star in the Madonna mould. So much music in this book, so much swing and dance. So DANCING oldies please. And some that, with any luck, SWING TOO
