Alarming to hear the evacuation of the studios this morning! As soon as you hear Alan D’s voice apologising for the loss of programme, I think everyone stays rooted to the spot, waiting for matters to resolve. Has Chris really evacuated to the pub? Can they do the show from Radio 1? Why not try Radio 3’s well appointed suite? Will it be sorted in time (I thought selfishly) before Drivetime? Anyway all was well but I will look at the emergency lights nervously tonight. The white one goes all the time but thats the phone light and always someone calling the wrong number-ordering pizza, taxis that kind of thing. Here’s hoping for a calm and emergency-free ARF. May all the excitement come from enchanting children, wild hen parties and happy family journeys.
And we’ll start with 1976. It’s John Curry winning gold in the skating, the Queen opened the NEC in Birmingham and there was that extraordinary heatwave with temperatures hitting what we called 96.6 F in Cheltenham (that’ll be 35.9 C obviously). What’ll be your favourite, wildly uptempo Friday night tune then?
Just the one show so maybe the voice will stay strong.
