And a very good morning to you too. I trust your weekend had its moments. We went down to watch and cheer on the runners at the London Marathon. It was hardly the balmy spring morning we were hoping for but what an event it is. I know I’ve heard it all before from the commentators but it really isn’t about the elite athletes who hit the tape first-though well done to them. It is about the thousands upon thousands of small stories- the fundraisers who are running for friends and family, often with photos of loved ones comprising part of their running gear. I was feeling guilty about munching on fruit pastilles but when a distressed runner stopped in front of us, the offer of a handful of sweets seemed to energise him. My journey was justified, my role in the marathon complete. Well done to all. And well done Chris! And well done Vassos!
And it is Book Club today featuring Everyone Brave Is Forgiven by Chris Cleave. Read a chapter here! Chris has been on before with Gold and what a writer he is! It tells the story of a four characters at the outbreak of WW2 and we follow Mary, Tony, Alistair, Tom and Hilda through till 1942. It’s powerful, engaging and (as Matt will tell you) darkly funny (at times). Don’t miss CC at 6.
And so it has to be BRAVE oldies today, for the book and for the marathon runners, all wrapped up in one tidy parcel.
