Sunny start in these parts with a promise of winter to come, albeit briefly. Scarves and hats to work day. Hope your weekend was a fine one, my main activity was to cheer on the thousands of runners at the London marathon. Anyone who has seen, run in, organised or cheered a marathon will know quite how inspiring these can be and yesterday was no different. Standing at mile 21 alongside running clubs, families, confetti bombs and supporters with loud hailers, I clapped myself to chapped and bleeding hands (though missed Chris somehow!) There's something very emotional about seeing so many runners, so many levels of exhaustion and so many stories. Names of charities and faces of family members and loved ones are everywhere. I'm not tempted myself but bravo to all who ran and well done to Chris on his 4 hours 41 minutes.
So today we welcome one of the great songwriters to the studio-and that's Ray Davies. Make that Sir Ray Davies. He's back! He has a new album called Americana, the first for 8 years and very fine it is too. It's full of songs detailing his complicated relationship with America-The Kinks were banned there for 5years. So WELCOME RETURN and COMEBACK songs please!
