Howling gale outside, dark till lunchtime, But midwinter approacheth and then the days will be getting longer and warmth and balmy days will return. I think that's roughly right anyway.

Yesterday's extravaganza was great fun and I managed to have tea with Greg James. Ken was at the bar, Jo Whiley was sparkly and Steve was turning heads. Jamie, Sara and Trevor were mingling and some youngsters from Radio 1 were being energetic. Ed Sheeran-as you might have seen-is just about the least spangly superstar in the world. I was standing next to him watching the show and for all the world he was a roadie. But he can certainly cut the mustard so congrats to him.

2 shows today. Movies with the hobbit himself (to go with the regular orc) Martin Freeman. The whole Middle Earth saga finishes right here and it bows out in style with The Battle Of The Five Armies. These movies have been part of our lives since 2001 and part of my kids growing up too. I think we've had enough now but I'm still sad to see them go.

ARF time then and let's try some 1981 please for some wonderful opening sounds. Shergar wins the Derby, Steve Davis wins the snooker and your host is knocking on doors delivering and collecting the latest census forms.
