So January turns out to be all January-like after all. Curse that frost, windchill and general iciness! Big thick knit jumpers and winter coats with extra layers will be the order of the day for a few days it seems. Many welcome it I know but I’m yearning for the balmy days of December 2015 here. So a big Friday lined up with a movie show that features 2 amazing movies. Both genuinely brilliant I think. Leo DiDaprio will talk about The Revenant, now the most Oscar nominated film of the year, including one for Leo as best actor. You know about it already but it is stunning, visceral, brutal and beautiful. Then director Lenny Abrahamson talks Room, and even if you think you wouldn’t fancy it, trust me on this; it is extraordinary. And life-affirming. And astonishingly acted. Family Mayo will seek out another movie as child 2 makes her debut. And she has actual lines to say too! The one star reviews will not put us off, we think two stars would be fairer (and 5 for child 2 obvs).

And then a little ARF business to set us off nicely for the weekend and 1988 selected as our curtain raiser. We were watching Die Hard (Alan Rickman’s debut, what a tragic loss) Rain Man, A Fish Called Wanda and Mississippi Burning. And elsewhere, Sandy Lyle becomes the first British winner of the US Masters, the GCSE replaces the O level and CSE and the first Red Nose Day raises £15 million. And tunes? What do you fancy?
