Dolly’s upside down cakes

Phew! Wednesday reached, well done everyone. Have a treat (mine is a slice of rye bread made with onion marmalade….crazily good if you like that kind of thing). Last night a trip to the Costa Book Awards to applaud (as it turned out) Frances Hardinge and her book The Lie Tree win the top prize. A children’s book hasn’t won since Philip Pullman’s Amber Spyglass so this is brilliant news. An assortment of Book Club authors were there-I was standing next to Patrick Gayle who had been shortlisted for his A Place Called Winter-and a fine evening was had by most.



Today Jason Isaacs stars after 6. He’s in a movie called Rio I Love You and has become a bit of a fixture on the film show on 5 Live. The Harry Potter star is always great company and actually will be the third Potter actor of the day. Earlier I’m recording a chat with Toby Jones and Michael Gambon for Dads Army, Dobby and Dumbledore respectively. A little Alan Rickman reminiscing will be in order I think.

And actually, after the premiere last night, it is time for DADS ARMY oldies...
