Below the stairs

Presenter

Don't you love cold Tuesdays in November? The scramble for gloves, scarves and hats last seen in February is a much loved ritual that dates back hundreds of years. That shelf under the stairs also has room for old, battery-less torches, a squidgy hat left by a visitor with no taste and a university scarf that is too rough to be worn but that no one dares throw out. All scattered across the hall in the search for assorted winter items; 3 have survived the summer, the rest are gone forever. Stolen by the cupboard fairy of course and not anyones fault.

Meantime...

Today we welcome Jim Carter to the show aka Mr Carson from Downton, along with Steve Knightley from Show of Hands. Jim reads the poetry-together with his wife Imelda Staunton-on SoH's new album 'Centenary Words and Music of the Great War'. They are old pals from their London days and together they have made a remarkable album set. CD1 has the poetry and musical accompaniment, CD 2 has SoH singing period favourites. Steve's been on before of course but not Jim, who apparently is a bit of a circus performer and magician if you give him a moment.
