Photo of ShieldinchWe hear that a handy prop came to the rescue on one of the recent River City tours.

A lady in a wheelchair had a puncture while on the BBC tour at Dumbarton. Thankfully a canny staff member saved the day. A colleague from Radio Scotland was working as a tour guide. She cleverly recalled that Jimmy was confined to a wheelchair in a storyline of old, so the River City prop room was duly raided. A quick-thinking security guard called Jeremy helped out on the day. So Jimmy's wheels saved the day, and the wheelchair user was able to enjoy the delights of Shieldinch. The River City tours will continue throughout July.

We're on set at River City HQ today and things are comparatively quiet, as the cast and crew are on their summer break. The office is pretty busy though, as the production team continue to develop future stories and scripts. We hear that the BBC Three comedy How Not to Live Your Life is in production at the Dumbarton studios currently, and they'll shortly be joined by historical drama Garrow's Law. The CBBC show Hedz will be joining in the fun over the summer, where we hear the production team have the challenge of filming on the Montego Street set, but somehow they have to dress it so it looks unlike Shieldinch!

Och thats great that they could help that lady in the wheelchair with one of Jimmys old props.Quick thinking thats for sure.Im sure the lady would have appreciated the help and been given a chance to still go round the tour and enjoy herself.I would love to go on a River city tour but i am disabled and walk with crutches.I am in chronic pain constantly. Is their any chance of getting some of the casts autographs or even merchandise from River city to buy. They do it with other soaps its just a pity they cant do it with River city.Their are lots of fans out their of River city, more than ever now as it just gets better and better.Im sure the tours are really good and everyone enjoys them.

Hi lesley, thanks for getting in touch and for the positive comments about the show. It’s a nice story about Jimmy’s old wheelchair, isn't it?

I'm sorry to tell you that there is no River City merchandise for sale. It is possible to obtain cast autographs by post and you'll find info on how to do that by post on the River City FAQ. The River City tours are wheelchair accessible. I'll check with the people in the know about the situation for the users of crutches and get back to you shortly with the answer. Thanks, Anna

That is nice, its always good to read about someone helping someone out on their hour of need - there are a lot of helpful people out there which is great to know.

By looking at the above picture, has the Tall Ship been given a make-over on the exterior :-O ?

Just a quick note to say that I am really enjoying the show, its really at its best all the actors are great, well done to everyone involved at River City.

    hi lesley

We’ve spoken to the tour people and got some more details about what exactly is involved. The tour would probably be hard work for someone on crutches, as it takes 1.5 hours, moving around the sets and involves a lot of walking. There are not many opportunities to sit down nor are there resting spots along the way. So if you use crutches or suffer from fatigue it sounds potentially quite tiring.

The tour is definitely wheelchair accessible but the person taking part would need to bring their own wheelchair. Jimmy’s chair was taken out of the prop room in an emergency situation, but there is not a stock of wheelchairs available on set. I hope this clarifies things a bit for you, and gives you a clearer picture.

Thank you for your enthusiastic comments about the show. We’re so glad you’re enjoying it. All your comments are taken on board so keep watching!

And Scott, well spotted on the paint job outside The Tall Ship. The pictures are from our archive so I believe The Ship must have been been having a refresh when the snaps were taken.

    All the best, Anna
