Celtic Connections Music Festival 2011
The line-up for the 2011 Glasgow Celtic Connections festival was announced this morning.
It runs from the 13 - 30 January at a variety of venues around Glasgow city centre.
The Scotland's Music team have written about some of the performers on their blog. As usual they will be creating a Celtic Connections site with videos and photographs from the event. You can still visit last year's site.
Many of the artists performing are regulars on Travelling Folk, Mary Ann Kennedy's Global Gathering, Another Country with Ricky Ross and the Iain Anderson Show. Iain will be hosting a serious of talks at the Festival too.
For full details of who will be performing check out the Celtic Connections website, there's folk, country, gospel and world music to choose from. Personally I am more than a little excited to see that Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives are playing at The Arches. I've seen thousands of bands live, but none have come close to the experience of seeing Marty and his band.

Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives performing during the Americana Music Awards 2006 in Nashville.
So that's my recommendation, but if you have any suggestions please post below. There's so much to choose from and I'm sure other readers would appreciate it.

As a Border dweller I think the Borders Night will be magic - every one of the performers taking part are class acts.
Ditto for anything with Lau or the Burns Unit.

The programme used to be a great source of information and a broad selection of music, including specials from Celtic Connections.
If you care to take the link to the Save Folkwaves Facebook site, you will find that it isn't only the East Midlands who have lost a speciality music programme. Your area may be next!

It is the first time in 30 years that the band has played on the mainland, and looking on YouTube at clips of their recent gigs in Ireland they sound better than ever.
I would also like to echo John Elliott's comments about the demise of Folkwaves, it was a great show, which will be missed.
