Courgette challenge
After months of nurturing our beloved plants in the Beechgrove Potting Shed patio garden, all our good work has come to fruition. The champions of the patio really have been the courgettes, followed closely by our tomatoes. But what should we do with them? I picked 3 last week and distributed them round our team; the challenge was to take them home, come up with a dish and report back the next day. And so, here are the results of the Beechgrove Potting Shed Courgette Challenge...
Laura Seawright - prawn and courgette linguine - also containing lots of garlic and cherry tomatoes, topped off with a handful of the basil we have growing on the window sill here at BBC Aberdeen - Laura says 'I actually really surprised myself with how good this was!'
Denise Glass - courgette, mushroom and pea pie - made with a little help from her boyfriend. Denise says 'I couldn't really taste the pie because of the beans.' (Philistine, I say.)
Helen Needham - very thin slices of courgette marinated in lime and balsamic vinegar and cooked lightly on the BBQ, before being tossed into salad leaves from the garden - again, partner comes in handy. Helen says, 'zesty and summery.'

Any other courgette suggestions gratefully appreciated!
The question of what to do with all our summer produce is something we're going to be looking at in more detail on the Beechgrove Potting Shed on Sunday - gardening expert, Colin Stirling will share his tips on how to preserve fruit and veg for the winter months. It may all seem like hard work now, but you'll be thankful of a taste of summer during the dark days of winter. Meanwhile, after the buzz of eating homegrown - or should I say 'workgrown' - we're thinking what else can we start planting?
