#TheWho6Music - Help Create A Who 50th Anniversary Playlist

Kellie Redmond

Radio producer

So The Who are back… and created a stir online this week with the release of their first new material in eight years, as they mark their 50th, yes, 50th, year in the music business.

‘Be Lucky’ was unveiled on Thursday, with all royalties from the single set to be donated to Teen Cancer, the charity set up by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend in 2011.

It’s ahead of their 50th anniversary tour which kicks off in November, the same month as the release of their ‘Who Hits 50’ career-spanning compilation, featuring their very first recordings as The High Numbers right up through to present day.

So with these icons of rock’n’roll hitting such as landmark year, we thought it was only right to celebrate with a special playlist in their honour – put together with your help. You could chose:

  • Classic tracks or rarities from band itself.
  • Music from their 60s Mod peers.
  • Acts they’ve influenced or been influenced by.
  • Collaborations or covers.

… any other musical link that deserves a track claiming a place on the playlist.

Here’s an Instagram video to help spark more music ideas.

Send in your track suggestions – including your reasons for your choices – via Twitter using #TheWho6Music, post below this blog, 6 Music’s Instagram page, on the 6 Music or Now Playing Facebook pages, drag tracks onto the show's collaborative Spotify and Rdio playlists, or email nowplaying@bbc.co.uk

Blog comments will be available here in future. Find out more.
