#Comebacks6Music – Help us compile a playlist for the big comeback

Dan Cocker

Well we could’ve gone one of two ways this week: either the reformation of the original (or is it?) Guns N’ Roses line-up or the return of LCD Soundsystem. Both could yield inspiring but very different music suggestions, hefty fan bases and plenty of freak-show style intrigue (especially from the GNR fraternity).

However, casting the capable Now Playing net further afield, we see that 2016 could well shape-up to be the Year of Comebacks, as we eagerly await new material and/or appearances from artists who’ve been away for far too long.

Where have you been Kings of Leon? What’s taking you so long, Radiohead? When can we expect the new album, Biffy Clyro, Last Shadow Puppets, the xx, Black Kids and many others?

Of course we’ve witnessed some major comebacks in the last year or two from the likes of Kate Bush, Blur, Ride, Chemical Brothers and you could even call Adele’s return a sort-of comeback. After that we can point to the much-anticipated return of Stone Roses, the will-they-won’t-they constant rumour mill that dogs Oasis, The Smiths and even Led Zeppelin.

But for every successful comeback there are always one or two not-so-successful ones. The glorious return to form never really happened for the likes of Embrace, Smashing Pumpkins, Limp Bizkit, and up until the recent hype, Guns N’ Roses.

You could even argue that ‘The Comeback’ isn’t necessarily welcomed by everyone. YES it can be a magical music moment that evokes nostalgia, gives the old guard a bit of attention and in some cases a nice little earner. But what does it do to the young’uns trying to come though? How far have we come when major festivals are booking headliners whom haven’t released material in years, sometimes decades?

You’re in control of the music so let us know what comebacks-related stuff you want us to play – including the reasons WHY - to Tom Robinson via the hashtag #Comebacks6Music to help create a playlist.
