Springwatch behind the scenes: Five days to go
Pretty much the whole of the Springwatch team is onsite at Ynys-hir now, from the wildlife cameramen to the caterers. The difference in atmosphere from when I was last here on Thursday couldn't be more pronounced as everyone makes last-minute preparations for the first rehearsal tomorrow and the first show on Monday.

Hope you'll all be watching the first show on Monday. In the meantime, the messageboard is open for business, the photo group's filling up with stunning spring pics and there's loads more info about the show, the season and the wildlife righ here on this very blog.
Springwatch starts 8pm, Monday 30 May on BBC Two
Update 29 May: You can see some more Springwatch behind the scenes pictures on the BBC Mid Wales website.

We have a park about 1 min walk away and we are trying to work out how to encourage birds in to the yard. My dad has made us a great bird table with food and water, we have planted lots of veg and herbs in pots to try and make it greener and enticing to the wildlife. Any advice on how to encourage birdies in to our patch or should we just resign our fate to Geordie Shore??? I reckon this is a situation lots of your watchers may have who live in cities!! Any advice from SP Officials greatly appreciated from a Geordie urban dweller!! GOOD Luck for new series!!!

I do the same thing.

Looking for Grasshopper Warbler nests looks like a lot more interesting job than delivering shopping for Tesco.com Giz a job.

See you tonight.

Firstly, Garden ponds, mine is a small pond and is only there for the sound of the running water from the water feature but of course it has been taken over by a quantity of frogs. This year, with the very cold winter that we have had I have had to remove around 10 large, dead and decaying frogs from the pond, that died during the winter when the pond was covered with very very thick ice for nearly two months. The pond is now full of tadpoles so it seems that the winter has not had so much of a detrimental effect as I thought it may have have. Secondly, although I have a good feeding staiton in the back garden, safe from predators etc and always well stocked with white sunflower hearts, wild bird seed and wheat, as well as the titbits the wife puts out everyday, yet the birds have been absent since Christmas and are only just beginning to return, except for the Greenfinches, which seem to have disappeared from the garden altogether. Any and all comments from the team will be welcome.

A blackbird was very keen to "see them off"...and did so! They were not much bigger in size, so I presume were Lesser Spotted .Am thrilled to have them in the garden..DCK.
