On the playlist - Thumpers - Unkinder (A Tougher Love)

Tom Young

Introducing online producer

This week, you'll have been hearing Unkinder (A Tougher Love) by Thumpers on Radio 1 daytime shows. It was selected for the BBC Introducing slot on the Radio 1 playlist, rewarded with plays by the likes of Greg James, Huw Stephens and Sara Cox. But if you are late to the party, don't worry, it continues below along with a few key details about the band, who played our stage at Reading and Leeds last weekend.

Hometown: Thumpers are Londoners Marcus Pepperell and John Hamson Jr.

Style: Unkinder is a brilliant blast of futuristic pop. The bopping drum beat is tied together with layered vocals, swooping synths and fuzzy guitars. It sounds like a message that's been intercepted while travelling in space. Breaking new frontiers.

You need to know: The duo were previously in indie rock band Pull Tiger Tail, who went their seperate ways back in 2009. After the split, John went to tour with Friendly Fires as their drummer.

Supported by: Thumpers have been championed by Radio 1's Huw Stephens and BBC 6 Music's Lauren Laverne - both DJs have had the group in for a session.

Find out more: We filmed the band at Reading Festival and you can enjoy Unkinder and Sound Of Screams on the festival website now...
