Tip of the Week: Islands Lost At Sea - Platypus Fink
In their current incarnation, Islands Lost At Sea are Adam Farimer, Dan Lever and Andy Brooks from Bolton. However, according to the wonderfully self-deprecating biog on their MySpace profile, the band formed as long ago as 1958 "as the British answer to the American rock n roll explosion", but over the years have "gained a reputation for being woefully inept at every new genre of music as it arose".
We beg to differ! In fact, we're so fond of their song Platypus Fink and its sun-drenched vibe that we've presented the Islands with this week's Tip of the Week rosette. Give yourselves a pat on the back, chaps. Here's Huw to introduce the track:
Islands Lost At Sea originally released the song as a single in August 2009 and later that year performed at BBC Manchester Introducing Live at the Ruby Lounge (you can listen to two songs from their set here).
If you like what you hear, do check out the debut album from ILAS, titled Are Having A Lovely Time, which comes out on 12 April on Stay Warm Records.
